The Best Gluten-Free Pasta
There are so many gluten-free pasta options on the market today it only felt right to talk about my favorite gluten-free pastas. These are the ones I use in all of my recipes like this Simple Skillet Baked Pasta and this Gluten-Free Small Batch Lasagna. Not only are there so many brands there are also so many types of gluten-free pastas, rice, corn, chickpea, etc. I have a few different brands for my go-to pastas. Some are easier to find than others and I’m always on the lookout for new ones.
The Criteria
The pastas on this list had to stand up texture, flavor, and how well it holds up in a recipe. I wasn’t looking for the most healthy option, just a good old fashioned plain pasta. Truthfully, I don’t care for the chickpea and lentil pastas on the market. There is something about the texture that just puts me off and I don’t think they are very versatile to use in recipes. Not to say they aren’t good, I’m just more interested in normal gluten-free pasta that I can use in various recipes.
I also like to find gluten-free pasta made in Italy. The water is different, the air is different, and most importantly they have stricter ingredient guidelines than the US. This is a personal preference and obviously if you have your favorites then stick with them.
5. Antico Pastifico Umbro
Antico Pastifico Umbro is at the bottom of the list because it’s harder to find. Generally found in specialty markets or occasionally Home Goods.
It is corn and rice flour based and comes in various sizes you don’t find in mainstream gluten-free pasta.
Made in Italy their gluten-free line offers five different shapes of gluten-free pasta.
4. La Fabbrica Della Pasta - Senza Glutine
Senza Glutine is generally found in Italian specialty markets and also Home Goods.Â
Made in Italy and is corn and rice flour based. Their gluten-free line of pasta has many various shapes from common names like rigatoni and fusilli to more specialized shapes such as caserecce and tubettone.
3. DELALLO
Easier to find and perfect if you’re on the hunt for gnocchi or orzo.
The gnocchi is shelf stable which is a plus. The orzo is corn and rice based. Generally they are easy to find in most supermarkets.
Both pastas are made in Italy.
2. Barilla
Another corn and rice based pasta but it also contains mono and diglycerides.
Generally easy to find in most supermarkets and stores. Barilla has the more common shapes for their gluten-free pasta.
This pasta is made in the USA with imported ingredients
Honorable Mention - Trader Joe's Gluten-Free Ravioli
Ravioli lover here, and while there are other brands that you can find at your local supermarket I find that Trader Joe’s gluten-free to be a great option. It’s tasty and it doesn’t fall apart.
1. Jovial
Jovial pasta is my number one pick for various reasons.
It’s made in Italy, and pressed with bronze dies. The pasta consists of only organic brown rice flour and water. To me it tastes the most like regular pasta. Most times you can’t even tell the difference.
Easy to find in most supermarkets and has many of the common pasta shapes.
