Slider sandwiches are always fun to have for a family gathering or when it’s game day. Topped with an herb butter mixture then filled with meats and cheeses and baked for a brief period of time until the cheese gets nice and melted. These have an Italian spin on them with the prosciutto, ham, parmesan, and mozzarella cheese. Adding a quick homemade garlic butter makes them so delicious. In many recipes you see the meats get layered onto the rolls whole, but cutting or breaking the meat into pieces ensures that the sliders are still filled with meat as opposed to losing some of it if kept with bigger slices.

This recipe is broken down for both regular and gluten-free sliders. It’s basically the same concept but since gluten-free slider buns are usually a smaller quanity in the packaging the garlic butter amounts are slightly different.

Ingredients Needed To Make The Sliders

Savory Dinner/Gluten-Free Dinner Rolls – Stay away from the sweet rolls (ie. King Hawaiian sweet rolls) and just go with the savory ones.

Prosciutto – This can be found in most supermarket deli sections.

Deli Ham – Make sure it’s not smoked or Black Forest. A plain domestic ham, fat free ham, or any uncured ham works well here.

Shredded Mozzarella Cheese

Grated Parmesan Cheese

Unsalted Butter-Because the deli meat’s and cheese are salty it’s best to use unsalted butter.

Garlic – 1-2 cloves of garlic depending on how many rolls you have.

Oregano – Fresh if possible

Thyme – Fresh if possible

Parsley – Fresh if possible

Flaky Salt & Pepper

Regular Sliders

Sliders are so easy and fun to make.  I recommend using rolls that are not sweetened so consider the King Hawaiian savory or butter rolls, Pepperidge Farm Classic dinner rolls, or even your favorite supermarket brand dinner rolls. You just want them baked together and not individual rolls.

Begin by softening/melting the butter and once it’s soft add the fresh herbs (Thyme, Oregano, and Parsley) and the minced garlic cloves. Mix it all together. If the butter is a not a spreadable consistency then you can microwave for a few seconds. It’s ok if it melts slightly or is a bit lumpy you just want it to be able to spread easily.  Keeping the rolls together cut them in half horizontally and remove the top and set aside. Place the bottom onto some aluminum foil that is large enough to cover the rolls for baking.

Spread the butter onto the bottom half of the rolls leaving a bit for spreading over the top. Cut the deli meat into pieces or break apart and layer onto the buttered rolls. Sprinkle the meat with mozzarella cheese, parmesan cheese and some fresh ground pepper. Then put the top on and spread with the remaining butter and sprinkle with a small amount of flaky salt. Cover with the aluminum foil and bake for 15 minutes or until the cheese is melted. Uncover and bake for five more minutes.

Gluten-Free Sliders

Gluten-free sliders are a bit more challenging to make because it’s harder to find the bread. I have had success finding these gluten-free dinner rolls  in the frozen section of Whole Foods and they work really well. The difference between these and the regular slider rolls is that there are less in the packaging and also they have a bit more bread. Since the rolls have a bit more bread you basically just increase the slices of deli meat to achieve a more balanced slider sandwich. Also, since there are less rolls the the garlic butter, cheese and herbs quantities are reduced.
