Gluten-Free Christmas Cookie Box
This Gluten-Free Christmas Cookie Box is filled with an assortment of cookies sure to please everyone.
When I first saw a cookie box several years back I thought what a great idea. As an Italian I grew up with trays and trays of cookies, and still tend to gravitate towards that when entertaining. However, the cookie box facinates me so I thought I would make some of my favorite cookies and create one.
The Box
This year I found several boxes in the dollar section of Target. They were $5 each, I bought two different ones and when I went back for the third they were sold out. Trying to find boxes was tricky last year so I just used a square tin cookie container and that worked just as well. Another option is to use a new carboard box, they come in all sizes and work just as well. In reality it can be anything you can display your cookies in just make sure it’s a box and not a round tin.
The Cookies
Every year I have a list of cookies I want to make but time just runs out so I don’t get to all of them. A few things I try to do it keep in mind who likes what type of cookie. Plan to have your favorites (after all your baking them) but also add in a new recipe you have been meaning to try. Sugar cookies are a crowd pleaser but don’t forget the chocolate lovers and have some chocolate cookies in there too.
Another thing you can do is a combination of store bought and baked cookies, after all we don’t always have time to bake everything. Adding some other goodies like marshmallows or your favorite candy can also be a nice touch. This year I’m adding homemade marshamallow because who doesn’t eat them like a cookie?
This Year's Cookies
This year I did a few of my own personal recipes and also a few I found online. I added Amaretti cookies as a nod to my Italian heritage and some chocolate cookies for my chocolate lovers. I’ve linked the recipes below, just tap on the name and it will take you to the recipe.
Gluten-Free Split Seconds Cookie– Personal Recipe
Simple Gluten-Free Chocolate Chip Cookies – Personal Recipe I added chopped chocolate-covered espresso beans to the batter along with chocolate chips so I call them Espresso Choc Chip Cookies
Amaretti Cookies – A nod to my Italian heritage. Easy to make using almond flour instead of the more expensive almond paste.
Marshmallows – or use store-bought
Italian Wedding Cookies – These are also known as Mexican Wedding Cookies or Russian Tea Cakes. I subbed in walnuts instead of almonds.
Double Chocolate Chip Cookie – For the chocolate lover.
Embellishments
Some fun things you can do to add to the box to make it pretty can be:
Tying the cookies in fancy ribbon or string
Using cupcake liners to hold certain cookies
Adding your favorite candy or chocolates
Using pretty tissue paper to line the box
Cellophane and pretty ribbon or string to wrap the box in

Putting The Box Together
The fun part is putting your cookie box together. You can fill it with whatever you want, there are no rules on how many cookies to add. I think adding some candy or chocolates is a nice touch.
Line the box with tissue or shredded paper and coordinating string and cupcake liners give it a more cohesive look. Stacking some cookies and putting some on their side give visual appeal. Even scattering the same cookie in different spots throughout the box also works.
Have fun with it, no matter what, whomever receives the box will be grateful to have the pretty treats you created for them.
