Gluten-Free Eggnog French Toast
Slices of bread dipped into an eggnog mixture makes for the best gluten-free eggnog french toast.
I am not a fan of eggnog unless it’s in something baked. I love a good french toast, something sweet and delicious that you can drizzle maple syrup over and dig in. However, I do also like the savory Italian version like this Ham and Cheese Breakfast Strata.
Why You'll Love This Recipe
- A great way to use up eggnog
- The french toast flavor is enhanced
- You can use regular or gluten-free bread to make it
Ingredients
Bread – You will need thick slices of regular or gluten-free bread. Brioche, sourdough, or challah bread work great if you are not gluten-free. For gluten-free you can use Canyon Bakehouse breads. Â
Eggnog – Use your favorite eggnog
Egg – You will need one egg
Cinnamon – For extra flavor
Nutmeg – Adds a nice flavor
Salt – To balance the sweetness
Butter – Used for frying the thick slices of bread in
Maple Syrup – For drizzling on top of the French toast to give added sweetness
Instructions
- In a medium size shallow bowl add the eggnog, egg, cinnamon, nutmeg, and the salt. Mix until well blended.
- If the bread is not already pre-sliced, cut it into thicker slices then place it into the eggnog mixture. Let the sliced bread sit for a few seconds, if it’s a thicker slice then let it sit a bit longer then flip it over. You want the bread to absorb a good deal of the eggnog mixture.
- Lightly butter a skillet and fry the bread in the butter until both sides are golden brown.
- Repeat until all the slices are golden brown.
- Serve with maple syrup.

- For gluten-free bread the Schar brand has rolls that you can use or Canyon Bakehouse has the sliced breads that will work really well. Base Culture Simply Classic Sandwich Bread also works well.
- If you are not gluten-free find thick brioche style breads, such as challah, or even a good sourdough will work.
- You want to make sure the bread absorbs the eggnog mixture so it isn’t dry once fried.
